Why Was U.S. Army Veteran Maribel Ramos Unable to Defend Herself?
The killer mistakenly led the police straight to her body.

Maribel Ramos was a U.S. Army Veteran. She had special military training. She could fight off an assailant better than an ordinary woman.
However, Maribel disappeared from her home in Orange on May 2, 2013. Her family, boyfriend, friends, and even strangers helped the police to find her.
Eventually, the killer accidentally mapped the location of her body to the police. Maribel’s body was found in a shallow grave in Modjeska Canyon, California.

Maribel Manriquez Ramos was born in Mexico. She was a baby when she moved to the USA. Ramos’ family was so close to each other. Maribel had a strong relationship with her sister and her niece.
Her sister described Maribel as a person who was friendly to anyone. Maribel had always been the kind of person who thought outside the box. She had a long-time plan to be a police officer.
After high school, she joined Kmart as a security. Maribel joined the U.S. Army in 2001 and was deployed twice to Iraq and Afghanistan. She was honorably discharged from the Army in 2009.
After returning home, Maribel chose to pursue a degree in criminal justice from California State University-Fullerton to complete her education.
Maribel moved into a new apartment in Orange with her mother. As time passed, her mother died. She decided to share the house with a roommate.
Roommates became best friends.
Maribel posted an advertisement on Craigslist to find a roommate. Kwang Chol “KC” Joy replied to the ad. He was a Korean immigrant from Knoxville, Tennessee.
KC was applying for a job in Huntington Beach. That was the reason he mentioned moving to California. KC was 55 years old when he met Maribel. Maribel was 36 years old.
KC mentioned that he was a single person and did not have any kids or friends. KC seemed a perfect fit for Maribel as a roommate. So she let KC into her house.
