The story of Wishma Sandamali
Japan is one of the most developed and beautiful countries in the world. Sri Lanka and Japan have a long-standing friendship. Japan is a leading contributor to Sri Lanka’s development projects and provides many job opportunities to support the Sri Lankan workforce.
Nowadays, Japanese language courses and universities are popular among the young community in Sri Lanka. Many young Sri Lankans dream of immigrating to Japan. Ratnayake Liyanage Wishma Sandamali was among them.
Wishma lived with her two younger sisters and mother in Gampaha, Sri Lanka. She learned Japanese with the dream of migrating to Japan one day.
After her father’s death, she convinced her mother that she could become an English teacher in Japan. She eventually moved to Japan at age 29 on a student visa to attend a Japanese language school in Narita (That was in June 2017.) Her mother remortgaged their family home to raise money for the university.
She Never Reached the Dream She So Desired
Soon after Wishma moved to Japan, she seemed happy and her Facebook wall filled with new photos of her happy moments. Meanwhile, Wishma met another Sri Lankan boy who lived in Japan.
